For each of the Artists
I am taking the intent of this show to heart, that is, the encouragement of new work and new directions in the old. Times are a-changing and what with economic times in the doldrums, in order to survive we as artists must change as well. I firmly believe that change must come in the form of new artistic visions for uplifting the spirits of our viewers. I do not believe that

The 2009 entries were also commemorated in a Ceramics on the Edge catalogue, which includes portraits of each artist, photos of their work, and artist statements outlining the influences that led to their process of innovation. This catalogue, which will be a feature of future shows as well, also includes information about the show's organizers and sponsors.

Attendance for both the opening night reception on July 8 and during viewing times throughout the show's three-week run set new records for the Arts Centre, and viewer comments indicate that this was a highly successful show. Plans are already underway for the 2010 Ceramics on the Edge show, and artists are encouraged to start planning their entries as soon as possible.

making only purely functional work is the means to our survival. Such functional items can be purchased at K-Mart or Saturday's flea market. (Perhaps this is where blue pottery still has the advantage!) I have selected work that is appealing to
all the senses, even though it may still be functional in intent, or work that clearly tells a story of our time. I have looked for professional attention to detail in the execution of the pieces. Among the established artists I have looked for intended movement into new directions that can be maintained by what has been begun here. Among emerging artists I have looked for fresh ideas, not only in their statements of intent but in the execution of those ideas. I believe that the idea for this show has a winning formula, and it has been a pleasure to be part of it.
